When it comes to health not many people are concern about what they should be drinking. Eating and drinking go together, like a fat kid and cake (Ok bad example, but you get what I’m saying). The types of drinks we put in our body plays a major part in our health. For instance, alcohol and soda, add calories and calories turn into fat. It’s time to really start putting a thought behind what we put in our mouth, what we eat and especially what we drink.
The Bad
Soda
In New York City, you’ll find various anti-soda and sugary drinks posters on the trains, which I am fully in 100% of agreement with. According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, a can of cola has 16 ½ teaspoons of sugar in it!!! That’s a lot of sugar! Just imagine adding 16 ½ teaspoons of sugar in your drink, even you will get tired of adding that much sugar in your drink! But many people are doing just that in drinking these types of beverages. I remember when I stop drinking soda, which started as a bet between a friend and I and we both won, even up to today we have not had soda, it’s been eight years and I don’t miss it or have a taste for it. So anything is possible. You will be surprise on what you can live without. So why is soda so bad for your health? According to Dr. James Howenstein. author of A Physician’s Guide to Natural Health Products, ”In an interesting experiment the sugar from one soft drink was able to damage the white blood cells’ ability to ingest and kill bacteria for seven hours.” Do you think you can afford to have your white bloods damage? White bloods cells are in our immune system to fight off bacteria and infections. Every time you drink a can of soda, just remember how you are damaging your own health. Further more, soda, is bad for your teeth, due to the high amounts of sugar in it. It causes obesity in many, also calories in soda turns into fat and on and on we can go. Some of you may be wondering, so what about diet soda? Here’s the deal, anything that is not naturally made can’t be good for you. There is no fruit, plants or anything of nature in soda, whether it’s a diet soda or just plain soda.
Coffee
I truly believe coffee as become the new black. Literally. It seems if I didn’t see someone carrying or sipping a cup of coffee I am no longer living in the United States. It was very difficult for me. I really thought “I had to HAVE coffee for my day to really go on” until I realize I’m letting a coffee bean control me. Unlike soda, there are some pros and cons about coffee. The biggest con is the caffeine in contains. Caffeine in itself causes dehydration, deprive you of your quality of sleep, causes symptoms of withdrawal and on and on. I experienced headaches after withdrawing from coffee and I said to myself why should I continue putting something in my body that causes be pain because I stop consuming it? And that’s when I stop drinking coffee. Coffee in some way is a drug, it’s addictive and have withdrawal side effects, it just sounds like a drug to me at this point. However, for those who are rolling their eyes at the thought of me suggesting that you stop drinking coffee, I will advise you to do it in moderation or try a cup of organic decaffeinated coffee.
Alcohol
“Blame it on the goose, Got you feeling loose, Blame it on Patron ,Got you in the zone Blame it on the a a a a a alcohol, Blame it on the a a a a a a alcohol” (Jamie Foxx-Blame it) When I think of alcohol, I immediately think of party. Alcohol has become a very dangerous acceptable drink in our society. It’s the ‘fun” drink. I believe most of us had a drink at least once in our lifetime. I remember the first time I tasted beer, I thought it tasted like poison and I never cared for it after that! So what’s wrong with Alcohol? The real problem with alcohol is the person drinking it; as we know alcohol has assisted many to participate in immature behaviors, destroyed people’s lives and even causes death. Moreover, drinking alcohol also leads to participating in using drugs. If you want to live a healthy lifestyle, alcohol cannot be on your list. Even if wine is made out of grapes, you are still better off eating the grape itself. When you consume alcohol, it effects your liver. Your liver is responsible for breaking down alcohol in your body and when you consume too much alcohol than your liver can process, it spills all over your body, until your liver can get to it. Over time drinking excessively causes liver damage. Here’s what I always ask people, why do you want to consume anything that will cause you any type of problem, whether big or small? If your overall health is important to you, you will make better choices, for yourself, your family and as an example to others.
Did you know? In addition to risk of injury or death as a result of accident or violence, alcohol abuse poses a broad range of physiological and psychological dangers.
